Exploring Rip Van Winkle Gardens: My First Senior Session at This Louisiana Hidden Gem
Some locations instantly inspire creativity the moment you arrive, and that’s exactly how I felt during my very first senior session at Rip Van Winkle Gardens.
From the second we pulled onto the property, I understood why so many photographers love shooting there. Between the towering oak trees, winding garden paths, waterfront views, historic details, and unexpected wildlife, this location truly feels like a hidden gem in South Louisiana.
One of my favorite things about photographing senior sessions is finding locations that offer a lot of variety without needing to travel from place to place , and Rip Van Winkle Gardens in New Iberia, Louisiana does exactly that.
Every corner of the property feels completely different. One moment you’re surrounded by elegant gardens and flowers, and the next you’re near the water with massive oak trees draped in Spanish moss. The variety made this senior gallery feel so full and unique while staying entirely in one location.
As a Louisiana senior photographer, locations like this are a dream because they allow seniors to have multiple looks and backdrops throughout their session.
And of course… we have to talk about the peacocks.
I had no idea just how many peacocks freely roam the gardens, and honestly, they made the experience even more memorable. Hearing them call throughout the property and spotting them wandering through the gardens felt so unique to the location.
At one point during the session, one of the peacocks wandered close enough to sneak into the background of a few photos, which instantly became some of my favorites from the entire evening.
It added such a fun and unexpected element to the session and made the experience feel even more magical.
This session completely opened my eyes to how beautiful and versatile Rip Van Winkle Gardens truly is. Between the scenery, the peaceful atmosphere, and all the hidden photo spots throughout the property, I already know it’s a location I want to shoot at again.
Sometimes, your first time photographing somewhere leaves such a strong impression that you immediately start planning your next session there, and this was definitely one of those places.
If you’re looking for a senior session location in Louisiana that feels timeless, elegant, and full of variety, Rip Van Winkle Gardens is absolutely worth considering.
