Their Love Is Multiplying: A Meaningful Pregnancy Announcement Session

This pregnancy announcement photography session will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Garrett is my brother, and his wife, Hailey, is one of my closest friends. The baby they were announcing is my very first niece, which made this maternity announcement session incredibly personal. Long before Hailey was ready to share the news, I told her that when the time came, I would be honored to photograph her pregnancy announcement. This session was my gift to them — and my way of celebrating the moment I officially became an aunt.

A Simple and Sentimental Pregnancy Announcement

When Hailey was ready to announce their growing family, she knew she wanted something simple, natural, and meaningful. We chose to take their pregnancy announcement photos in their front yard — the place where they’re building their life together and preparing to welcome their baby.

Choosing an at-home location allowed the session to feel relaxed and authentic, focusing on connection rather than props or elaborate setups.

Working Against Time and Light

Like many sessions, this one didn’t go exactly as planned — and that’s okay. Garrett is a farmer, and farming is an unpredictable career. He ended up getting off work later than expected, which meant we had limited daylight to work with. We moved quickly, chasing the last bits of golden hour light to capture this special moment before the sun dipped below the horizon.

Bringing Her Vision to Life

One of Hailey’s wishes was to include their dogs in the session, but with the fading light and tight timeline, we weren’t able to photograph them together. I didn’t want her vision to feel incomplete, so I used Photoshop to add the dogs into a few images afterward. It was a creative challenge — and completely worth it to give her the images she had imagined.

Because this pregnancy announcement session was so close to my heart, I felt an extra level of pressure to get it just right. I re-edited the entire gallery multiple times over two days, fine-tuning every detail until it felt perfect.

Finding My Style as a Photographer

After sharing the photos, something unexpected happened — I started receiving an influx of inquiries. That’s when I realized I was finally finding my voice and visual style as a photographer.

More than anything, this session reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place: to freeze moments that mean everything to the people I love most.
